Airport Style

H&M striped top, blazer, and sunglasses, Foreign Exchange jeans, Charlotte Russe necklace, Tory Burch flats, Kate Spade bag and gold watch

I call this my travel outfit. Skinny jeans, a boyfriend blazer, and polished flats. I wore it to the airport a few weekends ago to see off two of my good friends who were moving overseas for a few years. I guess the ride to the airport and back counts as traveling, right? I love looking at "airport style." I mean, who doesn't want to travel comfortably while looking chic? Now, I just need a place to go!

I had actually left my house without a necklace on. On our way back from the airport, we made a quick stop at the Topanga Mall, and of course, I couldn't come out empty-handed! The necklace matched perfectly with my handbag, so I just couldn't resist!

Colorful Comfort

Francesca's dress and belt, Zara cardigan, Kohl's statement necklace, Kate Spade Watch, H&M bangle and ring

I wore this plain maxi dress and statement necklace combo while exploring downtown Pismo Beach a few weekends ago. Comfortable, yet colorful, it was perfect for an afternoon of brunch, farmers markets, and ice cream. This has been my go-to dress for spontaneous trips this summer. It's perfect to throw on for a hot day, easy to accessorize with simple or statement jewelry, and beyond comfortable for long car rides or afternoon walks.

What's your favorite thing to wear this summer? Comment below and let me know!

Polka Dot Pants

H&M white blouse and sunglasses, Gap cropped polkadot skinnies, Target sandals, Michael Kors watch

You guys know I love colored pants. And polka dots. So finding these peach polka dot pants (try saying that five times fast) was the best thing that happened to me last week. I've already worn them twice, and I am so excited to wear them for the rest of the summer. These photos are actually from July 4th weekend. We spent a few days barbecuing and relaxing in Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara with friends and food, two of my favorite things.

On another happy note, I hit 100 "likes" on my Polka Dots and Purses Facebook Page today! I wanted to give all my readers a special thanks for all your support and encouragement this far! I couldn't do it without you guys, so thank you SO much :)

Happy Friday friends, and hope you have a good weekend!

Minty Fresh

Forever 21 mint maxi dress, H&M hot pink blazer and gold braided belt, Target wedges, Kate Spade Gold watch

I wore this colorful ensemble a few weeks ago, the day before graduation. All of my friends and I wanted to take a few final group photos before we all graduated and went our own ways. Of course, the one day we actually all dressed up to get in front of the camera, the photos just didn't seem to come out the way we wanted. Yet, it's funny how even though the photos we hoped to capture some fun moments in didn't work out, we still managed to create so many memories that didn't need photographs to be remembered.

I had also planned to wear this cropped pink blazer the next day at graduation, but I guess I couldn't wait another day. I mean, new clothes sitting unworn in shopping bags for more than a few days? Blasphemy. It worked out to my advantage though, because it was so hot at graduation anyway that more than one layer of clothing was simply too much under that bulky gown. I love how life has its own ways of working itself out whether its for lifelong memories or my life-altering blazer issues.

Weekend Wear

Kohl's polka dot chambray, H&M white jeans and sunglasses, Old Navy flats, Forever 21 earrings, Michael Kors white watch

I wore this outfit last week for a day of full of shopping, eating, and movies. I'm pretty sure it was a Tuesday, but I woke up thinking it was a weekend. I even had brunch on said Tuesday afternoon. The days all seem to blend together in the summer, and every day feels like Saturday, so why not dress (and eat) like it? White pants, breezy button downs, and colorful flats have been my go-to weekend wear this summer. Or everyday wear, I guess, since I apparently can't tell the difference between Tuesdays and Saturdays anymore.

On a side note, this chambray is my new favorite top and it matches with just about everything! I have been looking for the perfect chambray for as long as I can remember. When I found this one with tiny white dots--well, you know me and polka dots-- it had to come home with me.

Happy Monday everyone! Is it the weekend yet??

Colorful Celebration: Graduation 2013

Last weekend, as mentioned in my previous post, we had my younger sister's graduation party. With the fresh air, open space, and beautiful surroundings, the Rancho Tapo Community Park was the perfect location for a summery soiree on a Sunday afternoon. Special thanks to Aamir Iqbal for all the beautiful photos that afternoon!

When we decided to have a graduation party, I immediately knew I wanted to incorporate a color palette that represented my sister's bright and bubbly personality, and that's how we decided on the pink, orange, and yellow color scheme.

The draped fabric and hanging lanterns in the chosen colors created a vibrant atmosphere in the pavilion and instantly transformed the bland structure into a colorful area fit for a summer gathering.

The fabric was purchased from Michael Levine in Downtown LA, and the lanterns were ordered online.

For the centerpieces on the long picnic tables, we wanted to create something unique and personal. We started with the floral arrangements in the versatile mason jars. Large daisies in hot pink and bright orange complemented the color theme while further brightening up the tables. We added a few lemon slices for another pop of color and a pretty touch.

My favorite part of the center pieces was the stacks of books that we used to elevate the mason jar floral arrangements. We used wrapping paper to cover the books, and then we thought of clever book titles of subjects that my sister would have much rather studied in school--like taking "selflies" and "Instagram." Printed on clear label sheets, the book titles were an fun and easy addition to the decor.

The chevron table runners were another favorite, and they gave a modern look to the party.

As a family that loves to take pictures, we knew that a colorful backdrop was a must! After going through several ideas, we decided to create this with colorful hanging squares. The squares are 12x12 cutouts of foam poster board, spray painted pink and orange. They are connected with hot glue and matching ribbon. We had to build a frame out of PVC pipes to have something to hang the ribbon from.

I loved how it wasn't a solid backdrop; it was transparent and helped emphasize the open and airy feeling at the park.

Here's the card/gift table. We kept it simple with a pink card box, a few daisies, and some parasols for some color. We made a scrapbook with photos of my sister that people could sign with their advice and good wishes throughout the party. It was an interactive aspect for the guests, and now my sister has a scrapbook full of memories from the party!

On a hot summer day, these refreshing drinks were greatly appreciated. With lemonade on the left, and strawberry lemonade on the right, it only felt appropriate to decorate with some citrus. We filled two tall clear vases with lemons and oranges for a quick and easy pop of color.

The grilled shrimp with mango salsa served in mini martini glasses was the fastest disappearing appetizer of the afternoon!

This is the dessert table before it was fully set up. We weren't able to get a shot of it with the rest of the desserts which included cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, and a make-your-own-sundae bar!
